Our workshops have truly taken on a life of their own, with the most recent sessions once again proving to be a tremendous success. Since their introduction a few years ago, these workshops have become a central fixture in the Chifundo calendar—a vital and transformative part of life on our campus in Zomba, Malawi.

Hosted on the Chifundo Campus, the workshops focus on skill-building in Carpentry and Tailoring, offering practical, hands-on training to young people—many of whom have struggled to thrive in traditional academic settings. For these students, the workshops are more than just lessons—they are a pathway to purpose, confidence, and opportunity.
Our tailoring students continue to excel, with each workshop building on the last. Their growing skill has enabled them to not only repair but also design and produce school uniforms, skirts, and a wide range of other garments. The sense of pride they take in their work is truly inspiring.

Equally impressive, our young carpenters have been producing fully finished timber products with increasing confidence and precision. In the most recent sessions, they successfully created doors and door frames—testament to their hard-earned skills and dedication.
These achievements would not be possible without the passion and commitment of our incredible instructors: Dumsan, Shamim, and Mac Donald. Their leadership has helped turn our workshops into empowering spaces of learning, creativity, and growth.

Perhaps most heartening of all is the way the workshops have come full circle. Many of our current sessions are now led by former students and apprentices—a powerful reflection of the self-sustaining impact Chifundo is having in the lives of young people.
At Chifundo, we believe every child deserves the chance to succeed—whether through books, tools, or textiles. These workshops are helping to make that belief a reality.
